Research program to help seniors maintain wellness and give family members peace of mind

Feb 17, 2012

With the assistance of an $8.1 million grant, the Good Samaritan Society is currently conducting a research study, called LivingWell@Home, on how technology placed in the home can help seniors live as independently as possible.

If you would like to participate in LivingWell@Home or would like to talk to someone about the study, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page or call 1-888-771-9164.

The Good Samaritan Society’s LivingWell@Home research project is a free study that monitors eligible participants for one year to evaluate the effectiveness of wellness technologies. The program includes motion sensors, personal emergency response systems, and telehealth services. Without the use of cameras or microphones, nurse specialists are able to provide care and assistance remotely by analyzing data trends collected by the technologies.

How LivingWell@Home research can improve long-term care

The Good Samaritan Society believes its LivingWell@Home technologies could be used broadly in long-term care. The Society strives to change the way seniors age and receive care now and in the future.

The LivingWell@Home research study is designed to show how technology in the home can help:

  • reduce healthcare costs;
  • reduce hospitalizations and admissions to long-term care centers;
  • lead to better outcomes in health, quality of life and client satisfaction; and
  • support “aging in place” by delaying transfers to higher levels of care.

How you may benefit

Individuals participating in the study can prove how the Good Samaritan Society’s LivingWell@Home technologies help seniors maintain wellness in the place they call home. By being involved in this study, participants provide information that can improve their own quality of life as well as others’ lives.

If a participant is randomly selected to receive one or more of the technologies, all installation and monitoring fees will be waived during the 12 months of the study. Those who are not selected for the technology installation may be eligible to receive a monetary stipend.

“Our priority is to provide more peace of mind for seniors and their family members as they age,” says Sherrie Petersen, research director for LivingWell@Home. “With the LivingWell@Home technology, we can help seniors maintain wellness and remain in their homes longer.”
